How it started… the local engagement

On the Verge has taken a creative approach to engaging the community with the Gateways project . Early in 2007 a Community Report was commissioned to inform the community engagement in the four estates. For the Banners project, artist led digital workshop sessions were run from mid November to end of January 2008. In these sessions participants learned about digital photography and were invited to take the opportunity to explore what is special and unique about the place in which they live.

Project questionnaires were distributed door to door and cards to all the schools in the four estates. The questionnaires and cards gave the local community the opportunity to suggest ideas for what they would like to see on banners in their estate.

In preparation for the Underpasses project, On the Verge commissioned Inter-Action MK to run artist led workshops and activities at Fishermead and Oldbrook during 2010 - 2011. A range of community engagement activities with local groups will continue through the Gateways project.
